Tutorial: Paint your own Mother's Day Card

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and there is nothing more thoughtful than a homemade gift! I put together a quick video tutorial on how to paint your own Mother’s Day card. I also made a quick and easy version that you can just download and cut out.

1. supplies

I used four shades of watercolor; Permanent Rose, Opera Rose, Permanent Sap Green and Hooker's Green, my round tip watercolor brush size 2, Canson XL Series watercolor paper and a plastic palette and plastic water cup for this card.

2. Prep

Cut a piece of watercolor paper to 5 x 7 inches and fold in half so the front of your card is 3.5 x 5 inches.

3. Sketch

Sketch out MOM and add flowers on each letter like I did shown on the right. I like to paint loose and fluffy abstract flowers and that is what I sketched out here.

4. Paint

Start with the lightest shades of pink and slowly add in darker pink on top while the light pinks are still a little wet so they create a bleed effect.

Then once the pinks are dry (be patient) start with light shades of green and work to dark just like I did with the shades of pink.

Finally, add any finishing touches. I added a couple more little dots for fun!

OR if you want the quick and easy version…
just download, print, cut and fold!

Happy Mother’s Day!
